4 Killed In Wrong-Way I-95 Crash In Guilford, IDs Released: State PD
Four people were killed in the head-on, wrong-way crash involving two vehicles on I-95 early Sunday, state police said.

UPDATE: State police initially said the vehicle driven by Johnny Bookhardt, 76, of Norwalk was traveling the wrong-way at the time of the crash, but in an update state police now said Luis Fernando Garduno Cidals, 22, of Westbrook was driving the wrong-way at the time of the collision. This story has been updated to reflect the latest information from state police.
GUILFORD, CT — Four people were killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 on the Guilford/Madison line early Sunday morning, according to state police.
Three Norwalk residents and a Westbrook resident were killed in the two-vehicle crash on the southbound side of I-95 between exits 60-59, which occurred at 2:47 a.m., state police said.

State police said Johnny Bookhardt, 76, of Norwalk was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado in the left lane of two, southbound on I-95 south between exits 60-59.
Luis Fernando Garduno Cidals, 22, of the Boston Post Road in Westbrook was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima in the left lane of two, northbound on I-95 south, the wrong way, between exits 60-59, state police said.

Both vehicles collided into one another head-on and came to a stop in the left travel lane of the highway, state police said. All four people inside the two vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.
Passengers inside Bookhardt's vehicle were: Caroline G. Bookhardt, 68, of Norwalk and Patricia Greene-Kessler, 66, also of Norwalk, state police said.
The crash is currently under investigation, state police said. Any witnesses to the collision of the motor vehicles are asked to contact Trooper Querfeld #682 at Troop F, 860-399-2100.
