GUILFORD — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Guilford area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.

Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Guilford area:

  1. Warm The Children: In concert with the Rotary Club of Madison, Guilford Rotary is committed to supporting children and families in need across the shoreline of Connecticut. This project is quite special as the two clubs have raised substantial funds from the community to shop for families during the holidays to ensure children have the warm clothes necessary during the cold winter months.
  2. Guilford Food Bank: The current needs of the Guilford Food Bank are ketchup, baked beans, canned fruit, hearty soup, canned tomato projects, tuna, black tea, coffee, crackers, laundry detergent and dish detergent paper towels.

  3. Guilford Interfaith Volunteers: The Mission of Guilford Interfaith Volunteers is to promote the well-being of home-bound, elderly or special needs neighbors by providing them with food, friendship and functional medical equipment.

  4. Sarah Foundation: The SARAH Foundation is responsible for raising funds to support the goals and activities of the SARAH service agencies by generating critical resources needed to allow the agencies to continue providing quality programs and services in the community.

  5. Guilford Community Fund: The Guilford Community Fund exists to assist the Guilford community by providing a single entity through which donors can make contributions to support those non-profit organizations best qualified to serve Guilford residents in need. On average, the Guilford Community Fund raises over $100,000 annually to help support these organizations.
