Back-To-School Safety Tips From Guilford Police

The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 28.

GUILFORD, CT — The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 28, and the Guilford Police Department has offered up several tips to ensure safety for all.

In a video posted to Facebook by the GPD, Guilford School Resource Officer Meredith Thornton gave several tips for residents:

  • Children will be walking and biking to school, or out waiting at the bus stop. Make sure to slow down and give them space when passing by
  • Remember to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, and keep in mind the speed limit in all school zones is 25 MPH
  • Always stop for school buses! If the stop sign is out and the red lights are flashing, that means stop! Illegally passing a school bus can result in a very expensive ticket, not to mention putting the lives and safety of our students at risk.

"Stay safe, and have a great first day of school everyone!" the GPD said.
