He'll visit a pizzeria or restaurant sometimes unannounced, try a plain pie and score it on a scale of 0-10. His video reviews receive hundreds of thousands of views, and the highest-rated pizzerias often get swarmed by fellow pizza lovers in the days after a review is posted online.

He scored the plain cheese pie from Carpanzano's an impressive 8.2, and compared it to New Haven-style pizza. Portnoy previously declared New Haven the "Pizza Capital of the World" and said Sally’s was the best he’s ever had.

"Very good first bite. My favorite pizza we've had on this trip," Portnoy said outside of Carpanzano's. "The only criticism... You can use a paper towel on this one."

According to Portnoy's famous scale, if a score is in the 8's, it's worth driving to.

Other stops for Portnoy recently in CT include Madison, Middletown, Mystic, Niantic and Old Lyme, so far.

Located at 1200 Boston Post Road, Carpanzano's features appetizers, salads, subs, wraps, entrees, and of course, pizza, to go along with daily specials.
