CMT, CAPT Scores Stay Strong In Guilford

CMT scores dropped slightly from last year, but overall the vast majority of students in town are at least proficient in all subjects.

Standardized test scores dropped slightly this year in Guilford, particularly on the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT), but overall the scores were impressive and well above the state averages.

Tuesday, the Connecticut Department of Education released the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) and the CMT scores for all Connecticut school districts. On the CAPT test, which is given to 10th graders, Guilford students produced roughly the same results as last year's class, with more than 95 percent of students named proficient in writing, reading, science and math.

The district's CMT scores dropped slightly in most grades from last year, but were still strong overall. By eighth grade, more than 90 percent of students were named proficient in all areas, and the district's scores were well above the state averages in all areas.
