Deadline To Get New Dog Licenses Looms In Guilford

All dogs 6 months of age and older must be licensed.

GUILFORD, CT — The deadline to obtain a new license for your dog is fast aproaching in Guilford.

Residents with four-leged fury friends have until June 30 to renew their licenses. The licenses are then valid from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. A newly acquired dog may be licensed at any time.

According to Connecticut General Statutes, all dogs 6 months of age and older must be licensed in their town of residence.

A current rabies vaccination certificate is required before a license can be issued or renewed. Late renewals (July 1 or later) are subject to a late fee of $1 per month.

Licenses can be obtained from the Guilford Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by mail.

Dog License Fees:

  • $8 for a spayed or neutered dog (documentation required)
  • $19 for a non-spayed or non-neutered dog
  • $1 for a duplicate copy of a lost license
  • 50 cents for replacement of a lost tag

Fines:

  • $75 for an unlicensed dog picked up by the animal control officer
  • $92 for a roaming dog
  • $136 for not having an up-to-date rabies certificate
