Democrat Zuse To Run For First Selectman Of Guilford

Zuse said he is running because he wants to "challenge the status quo in Guilford."

Ted Zuse, a Democrat, has announced that he will seek to become the next First Selectman of Guilford as a petitioning candidate, joining a race that already includes Democrat Veronica Wallace and incumbent First Selectman Joseph Mazza.

Mazza originally was going to run unopposed as the Guilford Democratic Town Committee nominated no candidate for First Selectman at their July caucus. However, Wallace and Zuse, both Democrats, have since joined the race.

In a letter submitted to The Day, Zuse said he is running because he was concerned that the Guilford DTC did not nominate anyone to run for First Selectman. To earn a spot on the ballot, Zuse needs to collect 247 signatures, and is hoping that people will go to his business, Zuse Inc, at 727 Boston Post Road to sign his petition.

"Two weeks ago the Guilford Democratic Town Committee submitted a press release...stating that they would not be running a first selectman candidate, thereby allowing Joe Mazza to secure another 4-year term unchallenged," Zuse wrote in an email to The Day. "As a life-long Democrat and previously elected public official, I believe it is important to challenge the status quo and the GOP party in Guilford."
