Fall Hikes in Guilford Kick-off September 14
Guilford Land Conservation Trust is beginning their fall hikes in September. Hikes will feature a Veterans Day Family Hike at Bluff Head, a 7-mile hike through East River Preserve, a Columbus Day Hike, and more!

September 14th (Sat) 9:00 a.m. Westwoods – 2 hrs. GLCT Steward George Goss (203-453-3053) and Paul Proulx lead this hike across the plank walk and into the Westwoods Trail System. Meet at Peddlers Rd. trailhead west of Denison Drive.
September 28th (Sat) 1:00 p.m. See GLCT’s Recent Ac The Heart of Westwoods – 2.5 - 3 hrs. Westwoods Trails Comm Chairman Paul Proulx (203-687-7756) will lead this 5-mile hike in the southern se of Westwoods to discover some of its natural and historic wonders. Sites to be visited include the mysterious rock carvings, Lost Lake, the Indian Cave, and a natural rock fo on called the Pulpit. Wear good hiking shoes and bring plenty of water and a snack. Meet at the Sam Hill Rd. trailhead.

October 5th (Sat) 10:00 a.m. Dudley-Barrows Preserve – 2 - 2.5 hrs. GLCT Directors Ted Mankovich and Rob Valley (203-458-8101) to lead this moderate 1-1.2 mile hike to a new trail on the property, which crosses over a rocky highland known as The Three Monks. Lots of climbing, so wear good, comfortable shoes and bring a camera. Meet at the parking lot at Dudley Farm on the corner of Rt. 77 and Rt. 80.
October 12th (Sat) 11:00 a.m. Chaffinch Island Salt Meadows – 2 hrs. Autumn is a special e to see the meadows, explore the plants, and understand the challenges these wetlands are facing. October 14th (Mon) 10:00 a.m. Columbus Day Hike – 1.5 – 2 hrs. AMC-trained Janet Ainsworth (203-530- 7826) will lead this strenuous hike through the northlands of Guilford to Madison’s Coan Pond. Meet at the Braemore Preserve parking lot on Rt.77.
October 19th (Sat) 9:30 a.m. Shaumpishuh Woods Preserve Hike – 1-1.5 hrs. GLCT Steward Peter H. Johnson and Historian Joel Helander will lead a short hike on this 25-acre woodland tract off West Lane in the Sachem's Head area. Two historic sites to be visited include the ruins of an early 19th century potashery, a facility for wood ashes for soap making, and an Indian rock shelter. Meet on West Lane off Vineyard Point Rd., where there is ample parking.
October 26th (Sat) 1:00 p.m. East River Preserve, Eastwoods, Nut Plains Woods & New England Trail – 3.5-4 hrs. Join GLCT Vice President Heather Allore (203-494-3886) and GLCT Steward George Goss for this 7-mile hike through the East River Preserve and 2 adjacent GLCT Bring good hiking shoes, water and a snack. Meet at Clapboard Hill Rd. trailhead.
October 27th (Sun) 1:00 p.m. Munger Brook – 1 hr. GLCT Steward Dave Bell (203-927-8108) will lead this hike on this le known but ful property. Easy walking, mostly on old woods roads. Meet at the cul-de-sac at the end of Indian Meadows Drive, off of West Street in north Guilford.

November 11th (Mon) 1:00 p.m. Veterans Day Family Hike, Bluff Head – 2 hrs. GLCT Vice President Heather Allore (203-494-3886) will lead this kid-friendly hike up to Bluff Head through some of the most property in Guilford with views across Long Island Sound. Meet at the parking lot at Bluff Head on Rt.77.
November 30th (Sat) 9:00 a.m. Eastwoods the Leaves – 2 hrs. Meet at East Bearhouse Hill Rd. trailhead east of Podunk Rd. to explore this impressive property with GLCT Steward George Goss. (203-453-3053)
Please meet 10 minutes ahead of hike start. Leashed dogs may attend all hikes.
