First Selectman says to Stay Off Roads; All Crews Out in Full Force
As Guilford residents open their doors to about two feet of snow, Joe Mazza asks residents to stay of the roads. Town crews and contracted workers are out in full force in the town to clear the roads.

The Emergency Operations Center is now fully active in town as the town is dealing with two feet of snow and even more in some areas. "There is an enormous amount of snow in Guilford," First Selectman Joe Mazza told Guilford Patch this morning. "All the roads are closed by order of the Governor and we are asking residents to stay off roads. The roads are very dangerous and we need the roads clear for our crews to work."
Currently, the town's entire forces are out clearing the snow, and contractors have been hired to start working on the main arteries in town.

"We will start by clearing the town's major arteries, then move to secondary roads and then subdivision," Mazza said. "Our main concern is opening up major arteries in the town."
About 11% of Guilford homes are also out of power, about 1200 households. "Most of the outages are mainly in the eastern part of the town, like Podunk and Boston Street," Mazza said. "We currently have no estimations as to when power restoration will occur for those homes."

Further, the snow is also really heavy, making it all that more difficult for the plows to remove it. "We have everything we can in full operation," Mazza concluded. "Public works crews and contractors have been out all night working. And they are out there again today. They, and all the town departments involved on this, are doing a tremendous job as we work to recover after the storm."
