At the regular meetings of the Guilford High School Building Committee on January 8 and 15, the following items were discussed:

Black Box Theater: The add-alternate for the Black Box is not yet being designed due to on-going contract negotiations with Tai Soo Kim Partners. It is on hold until after the 100% CDs have been presented.

Kitchen: TSK reviewed detailed plans of the kitchen and server which followed input from staff.

Auditorium: TSK reviewed detailed plans of the Performing Arts Center (auditorium). Seating remains 600 including ADA seating. There is an on-going acoustical analysis of the space, however improvements have been made in conjunction with our acoustic consultants, Jaffe-Holden. There are two catwalks over the seating area, and 3 small catwalks over the stage, all to address student safety and accessibility, as well as flexibility in lighting for assemblies, concerts and theatre productions. There are still a few aspects to be further researched such as a band shell, additional acoustic improvements and storage.

Front Entrance Canopy: The base design and add-alternates are still in process.

Demolition of the old GHS: PCB testing is on-going which will inform the estimating of the cost of demolition of the old GHS. Additional money was approved for Tighe-Bond for testing.

Phasing Schedules have been discussed at length with TSK and O&G-Fusco and will also include conversations with GPS. O&G-Fusco is still planning to hold to an April 2015 move-in date, however construction schedules may affect the completion of the northwest athletic fields. We will review this process throughout the next 4-5 months with the CM.

Security measures have been discussed and adjusted slightly. However, in general, our security plans for the new GHS are on track with new trends.

PCT date at the BSF has been moved up to March 4 & 5.

Energy and Sustainability: The Building dashboard and energy use data used for classrooms has been discussed. The Subcommittee is meeting with Bob Hedman of Kohler-Ronan.

Emergency Shelter: The Subcommittee met with a roofing specialist who suggested special attention to and monitoring of installation procedures.

Meeting Schedules: The GHSBC plans to shift to meetings on alternate Tuesdays. Since this may not always be possible, please check our website or Facebook page for confirmation.

There is a special joint meeting of the GHSBC and the BOE, BOF and BOS on February 25 at 7:30pm at the Adams Choral Room.
