Guilford Above National Norm in Number of Women on Police Force
Guilford is well above the national average with 8 sworn female officers, including 2 female Sergeants, out of 38 total sworn.

GUILFORD, CT - March was National Women’s History Month and the Guilford Police Department took a moment out to honor the many women - past and present - who have served in the department.
On the department's Facebook page, the department noted that nationally, women make up roughly 13% of law enforcement as a whole, 7% in supervisory roles and only 3% of Police Chiefs.

Guilford hired their first sworn Policewoman in 1963, Elizabeth Maher. She was initially hired in a civilian position but transition to a full time officer during her 14 years with the department.
Female pioneers like Ofc. Maher paved the way for the many female police officers and Sergeants who have served the Guilford Community since 1963.
