GUILFORD, CT — The Town of Guilford has declared Dec. 10 as Human Rights Day.
According to an announcement from the town, the date marks the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by United Nations member states on Dec. 10, 1948.
"The Declaration affirms that the inherent dignity and equal rights of all humans are the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace," the town said.

"The Board of Selectmen and Guilford Human Rights Commission encourage residents to study and promote the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ensuring that freedom, justice, and equality are preserved and made available to all. We invite all residents to reflect on these fundamental rights and consider how each of us can contribute to a more just and inclusive community."
A proclamation was issued in observance of the day, which can be viewed on thetown website.
