Guilford Man Visits Fire Personnel Who Saved His Life

Fire officials had responded to an unconscious man on Guilford Green.

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Fire Department received a welcome visit from Mark Schachter, who fire personnel saved on July 13.

On July 13, around 6 p.m., fire officials responded to an unconscious man on Guilford Green.

When fire crews arrived, they saw Schachter, who had collapsed and was found to be in a potentially fatal cardiac rhythm with extremely low blood pressure, fire officials said.

Crews arrived and initiated patient care, and shortly after, Medic 3 arrived and prepared Schachter for emergent transport.

On the way to the hospital, lifesaving interventions were performed to bring Schachter’s heart rate back to normal and improve his blood pressure, fire officials said.

A couple of weeks later, on July 25, Schachter, who has since recovered, came to Guilford Fire Department headquarters to meet the crew that responded to his emergency.
