Guilford Police Warn Social Media Users of Cash App Scam

Guilford Police has had reports of scams involving the Cash App which is a popular money exchange app.

GUILFORD, CT - Guilford Police has had reports of scams involving the Cash App which is a popular money exchange app for both Apple and Android devices.

Guilford Police had this to say on Facebook about the issue:

The Cash App connects to your bank account, debit or credit card and allows you to pay friends or others with the app easily.

However, if you experience any issues with the app or have questions, there is no number to contact. You can only reach them through the app and text response.

“Many people end up trying to Google a contact number for Cash App and locate a number. The problem is that the number on Google is a scammer and will answer the phone as if you had reached Cash App customer service. At that point, the scammer will ask you for all your info including passwords, address info, social security info etc.

“While they keep you on the phone, they wipe out your Cash App account and transfer your money into their scammer bank account. It is near impossible to then get your money back and in most cases the scammers change your passwords and cancel your account.’’
