Guilford Rep. Votes to Keep Sikorsky in CT

State Representative Sean Scanlon voted to support legislation that will keep Sikorsky headquartered in Connecticut.

Today, State Representative Sean Scanlon (D-Guilford) voted to support legislation that will keep Sikorsky, a major aircraft manufacturer based in Stratford, headquartered in Connecticut until 2032.

"This deal is a major win for Connecticut when it comes to keeping and growing thousands of well-paying jobs and reaffirming our standing as America's leader when it comes to defense manufacturing," said Scanlon. "We have a lot of work left to do when it comes to creating jobs and improving our business climate but this deal coupled with the recent news that Pratt & Whitney and Electric Boat are expanding and hiring should be a signal that Connecticut is heading in the right direction, especially when it comes to our defense industry jobs."

The deal, in which the state will provide Sikorsky with $220 million of incentives and tax breaks tied to job growth, will retain and grow 8,000 well-paying jobs in the greater New Haven area. In total, this deal will support approximately 24,601 Connecticut jobs directly and indirectly through its investment because of the over 300 suppliers in the state who support Sikorsky's work. Locally, 68 Branford residents and 62 Guilford residents are employed by Sikorsky suppliers. Over the next four years, the Sikorsky deal will infuse an estimated $69.2 billion into Connecticut's economy and $21.1 billion in Connecticut-based employee wages and benefits.

With support from the State of Connecticut, Sikorsky will begin building CH-53K King Stallion helicopter for the United States Marine Corps.

"As the son of a Marine, I'm proud to vote for a deal that will provide our Marines with a state-of-the-art helicopter made right here in Connecticut to get them to and from wherever they need to go in the defense of our nation," said Scanlon.
