Guilford Resident Flees Burning Home To Safety: FD

The blaze started late Tuesday morning, according to the fire department.

GUILFORD, CT - A Boston Street resident had to flee after her apartment caught fire Tuesday morning, according to fire officials.

The Fire Department received a 911 call Tuesday around 11:43 a.m. from the female occupant of the second floor apartment at 344 Boston St.

When firefighters arrived, the woman, who was the only person at home at the time, had already safely evacuated, according to the fire department.

Firefighters saw smoke coming from the second floor of the two-and-a-half-story, wood-frame, two family residence.

Crews got the fire under control within 15 minutes of arriving on scene, fire officials said.

The fire damage was contained to the laundry room and living room of the second floor. Some of the occupant’s personal belongings were also damaged, according to Fire Chief Michael Shove.

No one was injured. The American Red Cross is helping the second floor apartment resident with temporary housing, officials said.

The Madison, North Madison and Branford Fire Departments also helped with the fire suppression.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause and origin of the fire as of Wednesday, according to Shove.
