Guilford Residents Already Saving Over $20,000 in Drug Costs Through Discount program

First Selectman Joseph Mazza has announced that the Town of Guilford, through its association with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM), the statewide association of towns and cities, has already saved Guilford residents over $22,000 in prescription costs since joining CCM’s Prescription Drug Discount Program last March.
This represents a 51 percent savings over what these Guilford residents would have paid for – the 454 prescriptions filled thus far; and the town-wide savings and use of the cards by residents is expected to grow significantly in the coming months.
This program provides savings on any prescriptions not covered by insurance. There are no costs to Guilford or its residents.

“CCM-member municipal officials know that many of their residents face the challenge of high cost prescriptions,” said Jim Finley, CCM Executive Director and CEO. “Over 100 CCM-member towns, such as Guilford, are using the CCM Prescription Discount Card to offer prescription savings to their residents who are without health insurance or a traditional pharmacy benefit plan, or have prescriptions not covered by insurance.”
“Guilford scored a home run with this program,” said Joe Mazza, First Selectman of Guilford. “The usage and savings by residents will only continue to grow with each coming month. Many families are struggling and even some families with health insurance may not have all their prescriptions covered. This program helps our residents save money and get needed medicines.”

Cards can be used by all town residents regardless of age, income or existing health coverage. There are no enrollment forms, membership fees, restrictions or limits on frequency of use for residents. There is easy access to the program. Residents either received a card through the mail, can pick one up at Town Hall, or print out a card easily by visiting www.CTRxDiscountCard.com, and selecting the Town of Guilford from the drop-down menu. The discount cards are widely accepted at all national chain pharmacies and most local independent pharmacies.
The program is administered by ProAct, Inc., an experienced discount card provider, who negotiates discount rates directly with participating pharmacies.
Discount cards may also be used to save on human-based medications prescribed for family pets that can be filled at participating retail pharmacies. Discounts are also offered on other medical services including vision, Lasik and hearing services.
