Guilford Youth Sailors Will Compete In World Regatta Next Summer

Ike Schutz and Avery Peterson of Guilford will be among 200 sailors worldwide to compete in the 2022 RS Feva Worlds in Weymouth, England.

GUILFORD, CT — After winning the RS North American Championship, Guilford youth sailors Ike Schutz and Avery Peterson will compete among the best of the best at the 2022 RS Feva Worlds in Weymouth, England next summer.

Schutz and Peterson won the regatta, which was held July 29 and 30 at Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, after finishing among the top two boats in every race, Wind Check Magazine reported.

Their win gave them an invite to compete in the RS Feva Worlds, according to the magazine.

An RS Feva is a double-handed dinghy boat designed for kids and for parent/child teams, according to the RS Sailing website.

"RS Sailing will be providing them with a complementary Feva charter boat and racing sails to compete in this championship, which is expected to have over 200 sailors," Whitney Peterson wrote for the magazine. "Ike and Avery can’t wait to race in England; thank you RS Feva Sailing!"

Schutz and Peterson attend Guilford Public Schools — Ike is a freshman at Guilford High School, and Avery is in eighth grade at Elisabeth C. Adams Middle School, Peterson told Patch.

Both are members of Sachem's Head Yacht Club in Guilford and competed alongside other Sachem's Head sailors at the Feva North American Champs, Peterson said.
