Faulkner Light Brigade Open House Set For September in Guilford

GUILFORD, CT — Faulkner’s Light Brigade is hosting an Open House in September for people to see the historic lighthouse.

According to the website, Faulkner’s Lite Brigade was built in 1802 and is Connecticut’s second oldest lighthouse tower and is the only active light sat ion on an island in the state.

The open house is a joint venture between Faulkner’s Light Brigade, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the United States Coast Guard.

Kayaks, canoes, dinghies and other small vessels can beach their crafts just north of the island boat basin from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No private vessels will be allowed into the island boat basin anytime.

A water taxi provided by Thimble Island Cruises will transport private boaters that anchor west of the Island from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Everyone’s safety is the priority during the open house, and the event will be canceled if there’s inclement weather and/or high seas. A rain date has been set for Saturday, Sept. 9.

Cancelation information will be posted on Faulkner’s Light Brigade website and Facebook page.

A $20 donation is suggested for all adults and a $10 donation for children 12 and under.

All donations will be used for the Faulkner’s Light Brigade's basic mission of restoring and maintaining the lighthouse.
