Kennedy Presents Flag At Guilford VFW For National Flag Day

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777.

From The Office of Ted Kennedy: In honor of National Flag Day, Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr. (D-Branford) joined Representative Sean Scanlon (D-Guilford) to present a flag of the United States of America to Guilford VFW Post 7666. The legislators gave Guilford’s veterans a flag that has flown over the State Capitol building in Hartford, and was made in the United States.

“On Flag Day people across the United States honor our flag and the values of freedom and liberty that it symbolizes,” said Senator Kennedy. “We must also take time to thank those who rose to the call of duty and sacrificed to defend our freedom under the banner of the American flag. It was an honor to spend this day with the veterans at Guilford’s VFW and to see this flag fly above their post.”

In 1949, Congress established June 14th as Flag Day in the United States. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777. This year marks the 240th anniversary of the adoption of the flag.
