Larcenies, Burglaries Are Top Crimes in Guilford

According to the most recent statistics available, shoplifted items are a top larceny.

 

The vast majority of crimes committed in Guilford are larcenies, with burglaries coming in a distant second.

According to the most recent crime statistics available from the state, there were 363 crimes committed in Guilford in 2011. Of those, there were 272 larcenies.

The crime data comes from the "Annual Report of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program," which is published by the Crimes Analysis Unit of Connecticut's Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.

Guilford police cleared 52 of its larceny cases, and 80 cases overall, 22%. "Crimes cleared," refers to the number of crimes that either resulted in an arrest, or "some element beyond police control" precluded the arrest of the offender, (such as the death of the offender) according to the description contained in the crime report.

The first table breaks down the number of crimes by type. The second and third tables break down the most common crimes, larcenies and burglaries, by several variables including home burglaries and car break-ins. The first row details how many occurances there were, the second row in the second two tables details the total loss in dollars.
