Lousy Weather Prompts Postponement Of Fireworks Until Sunday The 14th

The fireworks originally scheduled for Saturday the 13th have been postponed until Sunday, the 14th. The fireworks are now scheduled to go off at 9:25 p.m. Sunday at the fairgrounds on Lover's Lane.

The decision about whether to proceed with the fireworks had to be made around 10 or 11 a.m. on Saturday, because it takes about eight hours to set up, said Rick Maynard, director of the town's Parks, Recreation & Senior Services Dept.

"This is our biggest event all year, we didn't want to blow it," he said. Maynard said he and other town officials made the decision after consulting with weather experts and reviewing the forecast for both nights. They were told by the weather experts that, if they had the option, they should postpone until Sunday night.

The community picnic scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday went ahead as planned.
