My Dog Loves War Dogs. Yours Can Too.

The bandana is a perfect way to pay tribute on July Fourth, and the rest of the summer, to dogs who help support our service men and women.

Guilford has a new pet store that just opened a few days called PetValu, located at 1059 Boston Post Road in the CVS plaza.

There are lots of reasons to love this store (they don't sell puppies, they work with local organizations to find homes for pets that need them, they have great toys, healthy pet food, and dog wash stations ... yes, you can wash your dog there for $10 and they even provide the freshly laundered towels).

But another great reason, this weekend and through Labor Day, is that you can get an American flag bandana for $5. Your money will go towards supporting U.S. War Dogs.

Now, I don't like war. My dog doesn't either. He doesn't even like loud noises. But we are both eternally grateful for the brave men, women, and pooches who put their lives on the line to serve our country.

According to an article in examiner.com, the U.S. War Dog Association, based in New Jersey, is  "a nonprofit organization committed to promoting the history of military service dogs, establishing permanent war dog memorials, providing support to war dogs and their handlers, and serving as a clearing house for retired dog adoptions across America."

The money from this benefit will go towards items like bullet proof vests for the dogs, and cooling vests for dogs who work in hot climates.

The new store in Guilford, staffed with Manager Bill Domkowski of Milford and Chris Eaton from Clinton, is one of about 11 in Connecticut and more are being opened soon.

You can call the Guilford store at 203-533-5072 to find out more.
