Need A Break From This Heat Wave? Maybe Sunday ...

The National Weather Service says we may get a break from this week-long heat wave Sunday, when temperatures are expected to be a relatively mild 81 degrees. A storm may come through around Saturday evening to help usher the hot and humid weather out.  

The heat index has been breaking records all week, with temperatures routinely over 100. 

Here is the extended forecast for Guilford from the National Weather Service: 

• Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 101. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 4am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Sunday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. North wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 65.
• Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 80.
• Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65.
• Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
