Nicolette Spotlow Stars for Guilford High School's Lacrosse Team

She has been selected to play in prestigious lacrosse competition nationally.

GUILFORD, CT – Guilford has had its share of exceptional athletes over the years and one of them, currently a sophomore, is having a season that can rival any of them.

Nicolette Spotlow, an attacker for the high school team, has scored an amazing 24 goals through the team’s first six games this year, including 15 goals in two games last week against two Milford schools - Lauralton Hall and Jonathan Law.

Nicolette is the team’s top scorer and aside from the high school team she has been selected to play in prestigious lacrosse competition nationally. (To sign up for Guilford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

She has been selected on the first team in the U.S. lacrosse national tournament, which will be played in May at Yale University.

According to her father, Rich Spotlow, 250 of the state’s top lacrosse players tried out for the team, but only six, including Nicolette, were selected.

She’s also been selected to play for the Brine nation team in the northeast regional, which will be played in Richmond, Virginia this July.

In its 10th year, the Brine National Lacrosse Classic and Academy brings together the finest players and coaches in an event that, according to the website describing the event offers “extreme competition, exposure to the next level of sport and an Olympic-style lacrosse experience for every player.”

Nicolette simply loves lacrosse.

“To me, lacrosse has always been something I am most passionate about,” Nicolette said. “When I play lacrosse I find my self constantly pushing myself to work harder and achieving success in this sport.”

Nicolette added: “Lacrosse has taught me that you can achieve anything with a lot of hard work and determination!

“This year playing with Guilford High School I have really enjoyed playing with all of my teammates and working together seeing us improve as a team and individually. I am proud to be apart of such a great group of girls,” Nicolette said.

“I am thankful to have our new Coach Wendy Epke working with us and I think together we are going to reach our common goal of a state championship before my high school career ends!”

Nicolette said her goals are to hopefully play lacrosse at the next level.

“I hope to continue to play lacrosse and keep achieving my goals as a high school athlete in order fulfill my ultimate goal of playing Division 1 college lacrosse,” she said.
