Obituary: Joseph Samajean, 90, of Guilford

An Army veteran, he spoke five languages, was a self-employed watchmaker, diamond setter and jeweler, who loved travel, nature and animals.

Monday, November 27, 2023 Joseph Samajean, 90, of Guilford formerly of Phoenix, AZ passed away at Artis Nursing Center in Branford. Husband of the late Lillian Samajean. Joseph was born in Grand-Lahou, Cote d’Ivoire on March 18, 1933, son of the late Jamil Samajean and Marie (Gulesserian) Samajean. Loving father of Joseph Samajean and his wife Debra of Phoenix, AZ and Jeri Perkins and her husband Peter of Guilford. He is also survived by three grandchildren Michael Samajean, Zachariah Perkins and Howell. Beloved cousin of Hermine, Annahed and Sonia.

Joseph honorably served his country of France in the Army serving during the 1950 on the continent of Africa. He was a proud Armenian and fluently spoke five languages. Before retirement, he was self-employed as a watchmaker, diamond setter and jeweler for many years. He traveled extensively and loved all nature and animals. Nothing brought more joy than talking with babies.

Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford on Wednesday, December 13 at 10 am. Burial will follow in North Guilford Cemetery, 159 Ledge Hill Rd, Guilford. After the cemetery, a light luncheon will follow at St. George Church Hall.
