Opioid Epidemic Impacts Both Young - And Old - In Guilford

A forum on the opioid crisis is being held at the Guilford Senior Center on April 12th.

GUILFORD, CT - Much of the attention on the opioid crisis that is taking three lives a day in Connectict has been focused on the dangers of the drugs to young people. But there is another segment of the population that statistics show has also been impacted - senior citizens.

On Friday, April 12th Guilford D.A.Y. (Developmental Assets for Youth) will be holding a "Senior Lunch & Learn" at noon at the Community Center.

The purpose is to discuss the opioid crisis, how addiction starts and the importance of safe storage and disposal of medications.

Guilford DAY says people need to know that most abused prescription drugs come from family and friends. This is why it's critical to lock up medications at home and safely dispose of anything expired or unused.

The Guilford Police Department has a permanent medication drop-box in its lobby, which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
