GUILFORD, CT — As the 2023 municipal elections get closer in Guilford, plenty of races with candidates are eager to serve in elected office.

Guilford Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will publish candidate profiles as Election Day draws near.

Kristen Peck, 47, is running for a seat on the Board of Education in Guilford as an independent candidate.

Peck holds a BA from the College of the Holy Cross and is currently the VP of the nonprofit MMH Foundation for Cancer Research. Peck’s previous career was in high-tech sales and sales management in network security. Peck is Married with two kids, a horse and two dogs.

Yes, currently on the Board of Education in Guilford, elected in 2019.

Why are you seeking this office?

Nothing in a town is more valuable than it's schools. Our kids need the best possible education academically, emotionally and civically, and I am committed to helping GPS continue to provide education at the highest level possible for public schools.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___ and this is what I intend to do about it.

Balance: we have to find the best way to service our kids while being mindful of the cost to the town.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

My tenure on the Board of Education has included seeing the district through Covid, school shutdowns, a long-standing mascot change, the country's political shifts toward divisiveness, national book-banning requests, etc, and yet GPS holds strong as an excellent option for student education.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

"don't instantly react, sleep on it.... "
