Protesters: Guilford High's Dress Code Is Sexist

Protesters say Guilford High School's dress code is sexist.

Guilford, CT - Protesters are speaking out against the dress code at Guilford High School, calling the policy and enforcement of it sexist, according to The New Haven Register.

On Tuesday, 40 protesters gathered at the high school to protest against the 14-year-old policy, according to the Register.

The Register states that female students were told that their dress code violations were distractions to male students, but male students who had a dress code violation were told they were not complying with the code.

Protestors purposely wore clothing Tuesday that violated the school’s regulations, which includes shorts and skirts that were too revealing according to the school's policy, the Register reports.

According to the Register's Sam Norton, girls wrote the phrase “I’m not a distraction” and boys penned “I’m not distracted” on their hands and arms.

School officials say no student has received a dress code violation in eight years, but administrators and teachers will talk with students if its determined their clothes are a "distraction." Some parents have objected to that approach.
