Senator Meyer Praises Local Company for Green Technology
"Visits to local companies like Madison Earth Care show me that business innovation in Connecticut is as strong as ever," said Senator Meyer.

As part of his month-long tour of businesses in his district, Senator Ed Meyer (D-Guilford) stopped by Madison Earth Care, one of the first landscaping companies in the country to adopt green fuel sources.
“Visits to local companies like Madison Earth Care show me that business innovation in Connecticut is as strong as ever,” said Senator Meyer. “This is just one more of the many examples I have seen in the last year highlighting how embracing solar and other green technologies isn’t just a decision for the environmentally conscious. Going green is often a great way to save money and protect Connecticut’s natural beauty. Madison Earth Care is exactly the kind of business Connecticut should be investing in.”
Senator Meyer praised Madison Earth Care for its innovative and environmentally conscious business model, and explained several ways in which the State of Connecticut is working to ensure small businesses thrive in Connecticut.

Meyer highlighted the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, a state organization that supports programs designed to help families and businesses convert to cleaner, more efficient energy sources. This fund allows energy experts to help design a plan to convert to cleaner energy, and will provide financial assistance to make that conversion achievable.
Additionally, Senator Meyer explained the highly successful Small Business Express program. This program has been embraced by 847 businesses across the state, creating 3,022 jobs and helping to retain over 8,500 others. In Madison, Branford, Durham, Guilford, Killingworth, and North Branford, the Small Business Express Program has helped create 112 jobs and allowed for the retention of 373 others.

All of Madison Earth Care’s lawn mowers are now powered by propane, and all weed whackers and leaf blowers run on electric batteries. These batteries are charged by solar panels mounted on the Madison Earth Care trailer, which tows all the company’s equipment between job sites. Senator Meyer was told it cost $7,800 to make the switch, but that this money should be made back in savings within the first year. Fuel prices are down, and the machines are now lighter and more fuel efficient, allowing employees to accomplish more work in a single day than they were able to do before.
“What we’ve done shows that when you’re thinking about improving the state of the earth, you can save money and work more efficiently too,” said Bob Blundon, President of Madison Earth Care. “Green power is the future. Landscapers change slowly, but the more quickly we and others embrace clean energy, the better off the world will be.”
