Surrender To The Float, A Unique Spa, Coming To Guilford

At the spa, which will be located at 236 Church Street, people will pay money to float in a tub of salt water.

A new spa is expected to open this fall in Guilford where people will float in tubs of salt water to allow for bones and muscles to relax.

The New Haven Register reports that husband-and-wife team Jeremy Spang, 26, and Jocelyn Rustemeyer, 25, are looking to open Surrender to the Float on Oct. 1 at 236 Church Street. At the spa, people will float in tubs of 93 degree salt water, a technique that is popular in the western United States and has been around since the 1960s.

At the spa, it costs $50 to float in a salt water tub for up to 90 minutes, according to the company's website. The National Institute of Mental Health supports float tanks, and a book, "Flotation REST in Applied Psychophysiology," was written about the benefits of floating.
