Target Plans Move Forward At Former Walmart Site In Guilford
Target presented its site plan application to Guilford's Planning and Zoning commission on Sept. 6.

GUILFORD, CT — Target is one step closer to opening as Guilford’s Planning and Zoning Board approved Target's application during its Sept. 6 meeting.
“Most of our improvements are limited to pedestrian and vehicular circulation, with respect to signage, bollards, vehicle calming and an addition of some drive-up stall installations,” Dean Apostoleris said, representing Target.
Aaron Hemquist said they don’t have a projected start date, but they are in the design process for the building.

On July 12, Target met with the Guilford Design Review Committee for signage at 830 Boston Post Rd.
The retail building at 830 Boston Post Road is a 78,950-square-foot building that used to house Walmart before it closed in May 2022.

Hemquist said they are in discussion with a couple of national EV charging vendors, and it is something they are reviewing.
“We would also need to confirm with our property owner that is our landlord; that is something we are looking at right now,” Hemquist said.
Also being proposed is Target-specific signage from the well-known Target-branded entrance to the drive-up stall sign in the front of the building.
“The stall sign is placed in front of the building for drivers who are navigating into the shopping center to see that sign and be properly directed,” Apostoleris said.
Apostoleris showed the planning and zoning commission Target's proposal to modify the Shoreline Plaza sign from the existing sign to a 14-foot-tall stone base sign with Target and Big Y signage.
Joseph Mayhew said they will have three trees in front of the building but haven’t decided what kind of trees they will be.
“Our criteria is we use local native trees as well as plantings, and they are drought resistant,” he said.
