Tickets On Sale Soon For Guilford High School Musical
Tickets are on sale starting Feb. 7 for one of the arts highlights of the year in Guilford that typically sells out.
GUILFORD, CT — Guilford High School Theatre Arts presents its spring musical, "Urinetown," coming up the final weekend in March and the first weekend in April.
Winner of three Tony Awards, "Urinetown" is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself. "Urinetown" provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he has had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom.

"This show has been around for 25 years and is a critically acclaimed lesser-known gem of musical theatre that is basically a funny and accessible parable reminding us that we all have to share the responsibility to keep our communities safe and sustainable, while peppering the story with Easter eggs from the Golden Age of musical theatre, including homage to many of the shows we've done at GHSTA in the past like 'Fiddler on the Roof,' 'Evita,' 'Sweeney Todd,' 'West Side Story' and 'Anything Goes,'" said GHS Theatre Arts Director Cara Mulqueen-Teasdale in a news release.
