Guilford Transfer Station sustained only minimal damage after a fire Saturday evening, and reopened today, Tuesday. According to First Selectman Joe Mazza, only some sheathing inside the hopper and some wiring will be needed to repair the station. Mazza credits the Guilford Fire Department's speedy response for saving the structure.

"I have to give kudos to the Fire Department for their quick response," First Selectman Mazza said at Monday's night Board of Selectman meeting. "They saved the structure of the building, and saved the town a lot of work."

"The only damage was to the plywood, or sheathing, on the inside of the hopper," Mazza continued. "That will have to be sheathed, but the structure is ok. Most importantly, there is no damage to the compactor."

Mazza also added that some wiring will need to be changed, but the work will be minimal.
