Basement Fire Displaces Family, Pets In Hamden: Officials

A family was displaced from their home after a fire in Hamden, according to officials.

HAMDEN, CT — The Hamden Fire Marshal’s Division is investigating the origin and cause of a fire that displaced six people from their home on Thursday, according to officials.

The American Red Cross is helping one family – three adults and three children – after a fire on Booth Terrace in Hamden, according to a news release.

The family, along with three dogs and two cats, was displaced due to due to smoke and fire damage, according to the Hamden Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched at 8:56 a.m. to a reported structure fire on Booth Terrace. Units arrived at 9 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from a basement window and declared a working fire, according to a news release.

“A coordinated fire attack and search and rescue were initiated by Engine 9 and Rescue 1,” officials wrote in the news release. “Crews encountered heavy smoke and high heat on an aggressive interior fire attack of the basement. The fire was contained to the room of origin. All occupants were found out of the structure safely. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

“Mutual aid station coverage was provided from the New Haven, North Haven, and Cheshire Fire Departments.”

The Red Cross provided assistance to meet the family's immediate needs. Red Cross responders included Henry Kuczenski, Alex Kuczenski and John Begina.
