Closures, Parking Ban Announced In Hamden: Here’s What To Know

HAMDEN, CT — Officials are advising residents of several closures and a parking ban that will be in effect in Hamden due to a snowstorm in the forecast.

Governor Lamont has announced that through 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, the current weather forecast indicates Connecticut will experience arctic temperatures including overnight wind chill temperatures in the single digits and near zero in some areas.

Town officials want to alert residents of the following changes due to the anticipated inclement weather:

Transfer Station

The Hamden Transfer Station closed at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 26, due to the anticipated inclement weather and associated clean-up operations.

Parking Ban

Town officials have issued a parking ban for the Town of Hamden, effective at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 26 until further notice. This ban is being declared pursuant to Section 71.03 of the Code of the Town of Hamden. The parking ban prohibits any person to park, or allow to remain parked, any vehicle on any odd numbered portion of a town street or highway.

The ban further prohibits any person to allow or permit a vehicle to stand or park on any Town street or highway in such a manner as to constitute a hazard or obstruction to vehicular or pedestrian traffic. The Hamden Police Department is authorized, pursuant to Section 71.08 of the Code of the Town of Hamden, to remove any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance. Such removal shall be at the risk and expense of the owner of the vehicle.

Kwanzaa Celebration Postponed

The Town’s Kwanzaa Celebration originally scheduled for Friday night has been postponed to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, at Thornton Wilder Hall, 2901 Dixwell Avenue, due to the anticipated inclement weather.

Library Closure

The Miller Memorial Library will be closed Saturday, Dec. 27, due to the anticipated inclement weather.

Trash and Recycling Pick-Up

At this time, All American Waste will have regular pick-up, weather permitting.

Brooksvale Park

The Skating Pond at Brooksvale Park is closed.

Cold Weather Safety

The Hamden Police Department Lobby at 2900 Dixwell Avenue is available 24/7 for anyone seeking temporary respite from the cold. Residents are encouraged to follow these extreme weather guidelines:

Please stay off of the roads, if possible, to allow for cleanup and emergency vehicles.
