Having been a teacher in the New Haven Public Schools for the past 13 and one-half years, I think I have a perspective on education that is needed on any Board of Education. A teacher knows what is going on in the classroom, be it New Haven or Hamden. Â
Teachers know what works and what does not work; they also know what is nonsense and what is real. Â Some of the members of Boards of Education have no real idea what is going on in the educational environment. Â They just sit on the board and run for election time after time.
I have lived in Hamden for most of my life; raising my children in Hamden. Â All of my daughters went through the Hamden Schools and on to college; Yale, University of Pittsburgh and Southern Connecticut State University. Â My oldest daughter is a Captain in the Air Force and a physician; my middle daughter is an artist and soon to be Mom; and my youngest daughter is an author and aspiring actress. Â My husband is an assistant corporate counsel in New Haven.
I would very much like to serve on the Board of Education and I appreciate this opportunity to give a little perspective on my life.
Thank you.
