Car Break-Ins Reported Throughout Hamden

Police are urging residents to take precautions to avoid becoming a victim to thieves.

 

Vehicle break-ins have become a problem in several areas of town, according to Hamden Police, including at several apartment complexes where residents have come out to their cars to find them broken into and items missing.

"During the month of November, the Hamden Police Department has investigated 26 incidents involving larcenies from a motor vehicle," said police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. "These crimes have been committed at various locations, including three apartment complexes."

One East Gate Village resident reported that at least twice in November residents there were targeted, finding their car windows smashed and items such as electronics and small portable items taken from their cars.

The New Haven Register reported that Old Mount Carmel Village Condominiums and Aspen Glan also were hit by vandals. 

While police continue to investigate these incidents, in the meantime, they are urging residents  to take precautions to avoid becoming victims:

  • Vehicles should be parked in a well-lit area, a garage or driveway, if available. 
  • Vehicles should be locked at all times. 
  • It is extremely important to remove ALL valuables from the vehicle, including minute items such as small change. 
  • Finally, residents should contact Hamden Police whenever they observe suspicious activity.
