Child Injured In Hamden Hit-And-Run Still In Hospital, Family Says

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in support of the father and his young son who were injured by a hit-and-run driver in Hamden.

HAMDEN, CT — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in support of the father and his young son who were injured by a hit-and-run driver last week in Hamden.

The man and his son were struck by a driver while they were crossing Dixwell Avenue on Thursday morning. The driver, who had left the scene of a previous accident that morning, drove off after hitting them, according to police.

Tiffany Boyd created the GoFundMe page to help with her brother and nephew’s medical expenses.

“My brother was simply on his way to work and dropping my nephew off to school when crossing at a crosswalk was hit from a man driving the opposite direction,” Boyd wrote on the GoFundMe page. “The man left my brother and nephew in critical condition and took off not knowing if he may have taken a life. Thank god my brother and nephew survived due to my brother’s heroic instinct of having my nephew on his shoulder and throwing him off so he wouldn’t have taken impact of the car and being hit. My nephew was left with two fractures to the skull and is still in the hospital. My brother is recovering with a broken wrist, stitches to his head and all other injuries due to the accident.”

Boyd said her brother is an “amazing young man and would do anything for his family and his friends.”

“He is a teacher who loves to see young children succeed,” she wrote in the post. “I would say that he is the most loving individual I personally know his heart is beyond the average person he would put his life on the line for anyone he loves. I am here now asking for the same help he deserves so he can recover without having to worry about taking care of his son, his family and his baby on the way. I want to give back to him as he would for anyone else. Please if you can find it in your heart to help bless this family after this horrific trauma that they are going through it would be greatly appreciated.”

More than $1,600 has been raised in the first two days of the GoFundMe campaign (as of Tuesday night).
