4 Residents, Dog Displaced After Fire In Hamden

Crews extinguished the fire Tuesday morning in Hamden.

HAMDEN, CT — Four people and a dog were displaced from their home after a fire Tuesday morning in Hamden, according to officials.

Firefighters responded at 8:07 a.m. to a report of a structure fire at 78 Shepards Knoll Drive in Hamden.

Crews arrived at 8:11 a.m. and found heavy smoke billowing from the front door of a center unit within a multi-residential condominium complex, according to a news release.

“Coordinated fire attack and search and rescue were initiated by Squad 1 and Rescue 1,” officials wrote in the news release. “Crews encountered heavy smoke and high heat on an aggressive interior fire attack. The main body of fire was located in the basement of the unit. With quick response times, coordinated fire attack, positive water supply, and ventilation, we were able to confine the fire to the room of origin.”

Officials said all occupants made it out safely and there were no injuries to residents or firefighters.

The American Red Cross and Hamden Community Services provided assistance to the occupants and their pet, according to officials. Four residents and one dog were displaced due to smoke and fire damage, officials said.

“We appreciate the Mutual Aid Partnerships from the New Haven, North Haven, and Cheshire Fire Departments and American Medical Response (AMR) for their coverage during this operation,” officials wrote. “The Hamden Fire Marshal’s Division is actively investigating the origin and cause of this fire. We would like to remind all residents to ensure they have working smoke detectors to help save lives!”
