A Derby man is facing charges in connection with an assault on two brothers in May.
On May 7 at about 11 p.m. Hamden Police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and First Street on the report of an unconscious male lying on the sidewalk, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
When officers got there, they found Tequell Jones, 23, lying on the ground bleeding profusely, Smith said, and his brother Kyle Jones, 21, walking in the area.

Officers determined that the two had been assaulted by Brian Ward, 21, of 273 Derby Ave., Apartment 1104, Derby, according to Smith. Ward first assaulted Kyle Jones in front of 1064 Dixwell Ave, Smith said, and when Tequell Jones came to his aid, he too would assaulted by Ward and knocked unconscious.
Both Tequell and Kyle were treated at the scene by Hamden Fire Rescue and taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Smith said.

After an "extensive investigation," officers submitted a warrant for Ward's arrest, Smith said, and on Thursday Ward turned himself in after learning of the warrant. He was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree assault, Smith said. He was held in lieu of $30,000 bond and arraigned later in the day in Meriden Superior Court.
Detective Angelo Polzella and Officer Tim McKeon conducted the investigation, Smith said.
