Press release from Hamden Library:

March 7, 2023

How do you turn your life around when everything seems to be set against you? Find out by joining us to hear the captivating life story of Hamden resident and author Roberto Alfaro. He shares his story Tuesday, March 28, 2023, 6:30 pm in Thornton Wilder Hall, 2901 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT. In his recently published memoir, "Fighting through the Hurdles of My Life," Mr. Alfaro reflects on his childhood, growing up poor in one of the worst drug- and gang-infested neighborhoods of the South Bronx during the 1960s and ‘70s. He battled bullying at school and domestic violence at home. As a young man he found himself going down the wrong path, but then became the first one in his family to go to college. Though an extremely shy child, he grew up to become an actor and a member of the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. While he has done a variety of jobs – model, salsa dancer, former bodybuilding champion – much of his adult life was spent serving as a police officer for Hartford. In 2021 he retired from his most recent job as a public safety officer at Quinnipiac University.
