Hamden Hall Begins Construction On New Middle School

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden Hall Country Day School hosted a recent groundbreaking ceremony at its Davis Street Campus to formally kickoff construction of its new middle school.

Surrounded by Board of Trustee members, current and past parents, alumni, administrators, and faculty members, Head of School Bob Izzo acknowledged the project as a milestone for both the Hamden Hall and Greater New Haven communities.

“In 2008, we broke ground on our Beckerman Athletic Center at our Skiff Street Athletic Complex,” Izzo said. “As a result, our athletic center has had a tremendous impact on the region in terms of the number of organizations and groups who utilize that facility. I believe our new Middle School and indeed Hamden Hall’s third campus on Davis Street will have the same impact and far-reaching effects for both our school and the Greater New Haven community. Our mission of educational excellence will foster academic and economic advantages for the local area.”

Hamden Hall purchased the historic 18,000-square-foot mansion and Davis Street property in 2019 and was able to advantageously use the space during the pandemic for its students and faculty. Overlooking Lake Whitney, the premier property boasts 3.3 acres. The school commenced construction earlier this month to renovate and expand the storied building into a new Middle School, which will host Grades 6, 7, and 8.

A 12,000-square-foot addition will provide 12 classrooms; a large Assembly Hall; Theater Lab; Band and Choral room; Art and MakerSpace facilities; and a specially designed Science, Innovation, and Design Lab. An outdoor patio and unique educational settings both inside and out will engage students and enrich the overall learning experience.

Hamden Hall is a pre-school through Grade 12 academic community that provides rigorous academics and a daily campus experience that offers students a plethora of educational and extracurricular opportunities and outstanding facilities to explore their interests, talents, and passions.
