Hamden Legislative Council Authorizes Partnerships For Paperless System

From The Town Of Hamden: Mayor Curt Balzano Leng is very pleased to announce that the Hamden Legislative Council has authorized an agreement between the Town of Hamden, the Capitol Regional Council of Government (CRCOG), and ViewPoint Government Solutions, Inc., which will allow the Town to utilize specialized software developed for the purpose of implementing a new “paperless permitting” system in Departments such as Planning & Zoning, the Building Department, and more.

Town Officials have recognized the impending need for modernization in relation to the ways in which Hamden handles its permitting processes. This streamlined paperless effort works toward our goal of a more user friendly and accessible process for residents and businesses. The implementation of the ViewPoint software is the capstone to recent operational and personnel changes that work to make Hamden more business friendly and convenient for residents. Businesses, contractors, and residents wishing to file for permits will now have additional opportunities due to the expansion of Department operating hours and the future implementation of the online paperless permitting system.

By entering this agreement, the Town becomes a member of the CRCOG regional permitting system. Viewpoint will provide the Town with an operating license at an annual subscription cost of $22,800.00 (based on historic evidence of approximately 4,000 records per year), which includes support and maintenance along with a one-time setup fee of $15,000.00. The agreement is for one year and extends until October 31st,2017. The Town expects the system to be operational by mid-spring of 2017. Commenting on the paperless permitting system, Mayor Curt Balzano Leng said, “The Town of Hamden has been vigorously pursuing operational and personnel changes within our Departments that approve and distribute permits, in an effort to streamline the process for businesses and residents while also improving operational efficiency for Town staff.

The implementation of the “paperless permitting” system will allow Hamden residents and business owners drastically improved accessibility to our permitting departments and Officials, and in the long-term will greatly improve the turn-around-time associated with the permitting process. I look forward to these changes, and expect to maintain a long-lasting partnership with ViewPoint Government Solutions.”
