“When I was first elected, I came in to fix our town’s finances, and that is exactly what I’ve been working on over the past two years. From developing our first 5-year plan to growing our rainy day fund and getting the first bond rating upgrade in years, we’re getting our town on the right path forward,” Mayor Garrett stated on Thursday. “But it’s not just that. We have also paved roads, put in sidewalks, updated buildings and put together a terrific team of department heads that really care about Hamden. Today, I’m excited to announce I’m running for re-election because there is still a lot of work to be done.”

“When Mayor Garrett took over, cleaning up our town’s finances was her number one priority,” said Council President Dominique Baez on Thursday. “Over the past two years, we worked together to make historic investments in our rainy day fund, receive a bond rating upgrade, and update our financial policies and procedures for the first time in almost 30 years. This is what keeping your promises looks like, and I am honored to support the Mayor in her re-election campaign.”

“From her work improving our local infrastructure to her tireless commitment to our schools and families, Lauren has proven that she is truly the mayor of the people here in Hamden,” Senator Cabrera stated. “We often speak about the future of Hamden, and I am always inspired by her thoughtfulness and vision. I look forward to continuing to partner with her on that journey in her second term.”

Mayor Lauren Garrett went to the University of Michigan and earned a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. She came out to Connecticut for a job and decided to stay in Hamden because of its diversity, beauty, and community. Lauren is raising three children who attend our Hamden Public Schools. In Lauren’s short time as Mayor she has worked with our state delegation to secure over $20 million in funding to improve our town and worked with the Legislative Council to improve our fund balance and bond rating.

“The Governor and I have been thrilled to work with Lauren over the past two years and we believe in her leadership,” Lieutenant Bysiewicz stated. “This mayor is hands-on and on the job 24/7."
