
Carol Ann Veno, 78, passed away Sept. 15, 2013 in New Jersey.
She was the mother of Deborah J. McCarthy and her husband John of Manahawkin, NJ, Thomas J. Veno and his wife Pamela of Hamden and the late James Matthew Veno & Timothy Patrick Veno,
In addition to her children, she is survived by six grandchildren, Brian, Carrie, Siobhan, Matt, Maggie and AJ, one great-grandson Frankie and two brothers and their wives, Paul and Berry Honore of Hebron and Jack and Carolyn Honore of Myrtle Beach, SC. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Edward Campbell.
She was the daughter of the late John and Mildred Driscoll Honore. Carol was born in New Haven on Sept. 3, 1935. While a long-time employee of Bimonte's for 20 years, she worked to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Southern Connecticut State University in 1994, when she was 59 years old.
She worked for the New Haven YWCA and Hill Health Center until employed in New Haven as a Police/Court Adult and Child Advocate and with Sexual Assault Crisis Services. She was recognized for 10 years of outstanding dedication and commitment to victims of sexual assault.
As a certified law enforcement instructor, she served to train and represent the Greater New Haven Task Force on Domestic Violence. She was a Legislative Liaison and was Assistant Registrar for Voters in Hamden and Past Treasurer for the First District Democratic Club in Hamden
In addition, she was a Past PTA President, a Representative to the Greater New Haven Council of Garden Clubs, a Girl's Softball Coach and was involved with N.O.W., A.C.L.U. and Amnesty International.
Carol was an ardent and passionate gardener spending all her spare time with her hands in the earth.
Friends may visit with her family on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9-11:00 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden and may attend her Funeral Service in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Centerville Cemetery.
