Hamden Obituaries: Jonathan Webb, 47

Jonathan Richard Webb, 47, of Hamden, passed away suddenly on Aug. 14, 2013. Jonathan was the beloved husband of Rissa Webb and devoted father of Amanda, Cassie, Brittany and Dereck Webb.

Jonathan was the youngest son of the late David Webb, Sr. and LaNorma Webb. He is also survived by his two brothers, David Jr. and Gregory; nieces Athena Webb and Jasmin Webb and nephews Specialist Camari Webb (U.S. Army), Marcus Harun and Eunes Harun. He also leaves behind mother- and father-in-law Sandra and Walter Petroskey, sisters-in-law Harriet Harun and Paula Webb, brother-in-law Mohammed Harun as well as a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Jonathan was born in New Haven on Dec. 17, 1965. Having moved to Hamden at the age of eight, Jonathan attended Ridge Hill School, Michael J. Whalen Junior High and Hamden High, from which he graduated in 1983.

Upon graduating from Hamden High, Jonathan proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served his country with honor and distinction from 1983 to 1987. Jonathan was honorably discharged before he came home to settle in Hamden.

After having settled in Hamden, Jonathan married Rissa in 1993. Jonathan worked for the U.S. Postal Service for a short time before changing careers. He then started working at United Illuminating, where he worked for approximately 25 years.

Jonathan was deeply involved in the Hamden Fathers sports programs. He coached various baseball and basketball teams. He was involved in youth sports, having coached, mentored and inspired hundreds of Hamden youth, instilling in them sportsmanship, teamwork, hard work and character.

Jonathan was a huge die-hard New York Yankees fan and a huge die-hard fan of the "black and gold" Pittsburgh Steelers; he passed his devotion on to his family. Jonathan loved the movies, barbecuing and especially vacationing with his family, often traveling to various parts of the country to explore and share his love of this country with his family.

Jonathan loved to smile; he had a contagious and infectious laugh that affected everyone he knew. Jonathan was loved by all. He stood up and defended those who could not defend themselves and those who could not stand for themselves. If Jonathan was your friend, he was your friend for life. Every person who knew him was touched by him in some way. He will surely be missed.

Jonathan was a unique, hardworking man who lived for his family. To know Jonathan was to love Jonathan. He was truly a sweet and generous soul. Semper Fi
