Hamden Police: Girlfriend Assaulted; Boyfriend Arrested

A Hamden man is facing assault charges after police respond to his home Saturday night and found his girlfriend seriously injured.

it was about 6:30 p.m. Saturday when police responded to 44 Paramount Avenue on the report of a domestic dispute, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

When officers got there they were told that the victim was the girlfriend of the resident who live there, Michael Schupp, 35, according to Smith.

Schupp wouldn't let officers into the home so they had to force entry to get to the 36-year-old woman, who they found with "serious facial injuries, including bruising to both eyes and major swelling to her face and jaw," Smith said.

Hamden Fire Rescue responded and treated the victim before she was taken to the Hospital of Saint Raphael, Smith said.

Officer Matthew Barbuto arrested Schupp, charging him with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer, Smith said.

Schupp was held in lieu of $5,000.00 bond and was arraigned Monday in Meriden Superior Court.
