A New Haven man is facing charges after he allegedly entered a Fern Street house early this morning while the homeowner was walking his dog, according to police.
Emmanuel Brunson, 19, of 31 Level St., New Haven, was charged with second-degree burglary and interfering with a police officer after the 4:45 a.m. incident, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
The homeowner had left the residence to walk his dog, Smith said, and when he returned, he found Brunson walking through his garage into the house. Brunson took off when the homeowner confronted him, Smith said.

Officer Scott Jason conducted the investigation, Smith said.
There also was a report of a break-in on Prospect Court early Sunday morning. Police are advising residents to keep porch lights on and doors locked at all times — both homes and cars — as there has been an increase in reported burglaries and burglary attempts this year.
