Hamden Police Searching for Suspect in Street Robbery

A Hamden woman was robbed early Saturday morning while walking in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Arch Street, according to police, who are now searching for the person responsible.

At about 6:30 a.m. the 60 year-old victim was walking on Arch Street when a man approached her, grabbing her pocketbook and lunch bag, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. 

The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years of age, 5’6”, with a thin build, wearing dark clothing and a black colored baseball hat, Smith said. He ran southbound on Dixwell Avenue towards New Haven after the robbery, and two witnesses chased him but were unable to catch him, Smith said.

Officer Michael Nawrocki and his K-9 partner “Hank” searched the area but were unable to locate the man, Smith said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hamden Police Department Detective Division at 203-230-4040.
